Ingredients

  • spirit

French grape brandy aged in oak. Rich, fruity, regal.

  • liqueur

Premium triple sec with a cleaner, sharper orange flavor.

  • fruit

Always fresh-squeezed. Tart and aromatic — bottled juice does not compare.

Method

  1. Sugar half the rim of a coupe (run a lemon wedge first).

  2. Combine cognac, Cointreau, and lemon in a shaker with ice.

  3. Shake hard for 12 seconds.

  4. Double-strain into the prepared coupe. Express orange peel.

Garnish

  • Orange Peel

About this drink

A 1920s classic. The 2:1:1 ratio is gospel — though many bartenders nudge it slightly drier.
