Ingredients

  • spirit

Spicier and drier than bourbon, made from a mash of at least 51% rye grain.

  • liqueur

French-style fortified wine. Crisp, dry, lightly herbal.

  • fruit

Always fresh-squeezed. Tart and aromatic — bottled juice does not compare.

  • syrup

Pomegranate syrup. Real grenadine, not the red stuff.

  • bitters

Brightens citrusy stirred drinks; pairs naturally with gin and bourbon.

Method

  1. Shake all with ice 12 seconds.

  2. Double-strain into a coupe.

  3. Express lemon peel.

Garnish

  • Lemon Peel

About this drink

Rye, dry vermouth, lemon, grenadine, orange bitters. Coined when 'scofflaw' itself was a new word.
